John Thomas is assumed to have come to America, as an orphan, at age 14, in the ship Hopewell, arriving in Boston, MA, in November 1635. He was reared by Gov. Edward Winslow at his estate Careswell in Plymouth Colony. Later, John became the steward of the estate.
John's wife, Sarah Pitney, came to America in 1635 with her mother and brother in the ship Planter and settled in Plymouth, MA, where her father, having come previously, had a home waiting for them.
John and his wife, Sarah (Pitney) Thomas had eight children, all born in Marshfield, MA:
