William and Mary (Merriam) Taylor

Wife:
Mary Merriam
Born: Place and date unknown.
Died: in Concord, MA, 1699.
Father: Joseph Merriam who came to Concord, MA from Hadlow, Kent, England.
Married: probably in England.

William came to America from London, England, on the ship Truelove in 1635. According to the ship's manifest, there were four Taylors on this voyage: Richard, age 16; William, age 17; Anna, age 24; and James, age 28.

William settled in Concord, MA. His name first appears in the town records as early as 1650, where he had a house lot near what is now known as Merriam's Corner on Lexington Road (then called Bay Road).

William and his wife Mary (Merriam) Taylor had seven children, all born in Concord, MA:

  • Mary, b. 19 Feb. 1649.
  • John, b. 19 Oct. 1653.
  • Samuel, b. 3 July 1655; d. in a few days.
  • Abraham, b. 14 Nov. 1656; m. Mary Whittaker.
  • Isaac, b. in 1659.
  • Jacob, b. 8 May 1662.
  • Joseph, b. in 1665.

Abraham and Mary (Whittaker) Taylor

Parents: William and Mary (Merriam) Taylor.
Wife:
Mary Whittaker
Born: in Watertown, MA 10 March 1661/2.
Died: in Concord, MA 16 February 1756.
Parents: John and Elizabeth Whittaker.
Married: in Concord, MA 16 December 1681.
(John Whittaker, father of Mary Whittaker, was born ca. 1641, as a Middlesex Country Court record states that he was 36 years of age in October of 1677. The family lived in Watertown and in Billerica, MA. They had five children born in Watertown. We have no further information on the Whittakers.)

Abraham was a blacksmith and sometime before 1716 he and his family were established in a house he built next to his father's original house. Abraham and his brother, Jacob, had inherited their father's farm with Jacob keeping the original house.

Arbaham and his wife, Mary (Whittaker) Taylor had twelve children, all born in Concord, MA:

  • Abraham, b. 11 Jan. 1682/3.
  • John, b. 8 Sept. 1685.
  • Ebenezer, b. 30 April 1688.
  • Elizabeth, b. 7 Aug. 1690.
  • Mary, b. 15 March 1691.
  • Jonathan, b. 10 Aug. 1694.
  • Sarah, b. 13 Oct. 1696.
  • David, b. 31 Jan. 1698.
  • Benjamin, b. 18 April 1699.
  • Nathaniel, b. 9 Feb. 1701/2.
  • Daniel, b. 22 March 1703/4.
  • Timothy, b. 5 March 1705/6.

Benjamin and Sarah Taylor

Died: in Townsend, MA in February 1776.
Father: Abraham Taylor.
Mother: Mary Whittaker.
Wife:
Sarah-----
Born: Place and date unknown.
Died: in Townsend, MA in 1767.
Benjamin married a second wife whose name is not known. She must have died before Benjamin did as she is not mentioned in his will.

Benjamin, with his wife and two children, moved to Townsend, MA about 1731 where he became one of the first proprietors as the town was in the process of becoming an incorporated town.

By 1771, Benjamin Taylor, Jr. was declared "non compos mentis." When Benjamin Taylor, Sr. died intestate in 1776, his eldest child, Sarah, was appointed to administer his estate.

Benjamin and his wife Saray Taylor had at least four children:

  • Sarah, b. in Concord, MA 17 Jan. 1727/8; m. Benjamin King.
  • Lydia, b. in Concord, MA 11 March 1728/9; m. Mr. Chandler.
  • Benjamin, Jr., b. in Townsend, MA.
  • Anne, b. in Townsend, MA.

Father: Peter King.
Mother: Elizabeth Flagg.
Married: in Townsend, MA 3 September 1745.
