This descent from Edmund Rice is a little different in that, the surname changed from Rice to King because Edmund's grandson, Samuel Rice, Jr. was adopted by his mother's brother, Peter King, after his mother died shortly after Samuel, Jr.'s birth. Samuel, Jr. became known as Samuel King, alias Rice, and his children also where known as "alias Rice." When his children were well into adulthood, they dropped the "alias Rice" part of their names, and became known simply as "King."

Samuel Rice, Jr.
Due to the untimely death of his mother only two weeks after his birth, Samuel Rice, Jr. was given by his father to his mother's brother, Peter King to raise as his own. His adopted father, Peter King, gave the baby his own surname, and Samuel Rice, Jr. became known as Samuel King, alias Rice. Later generations dropped the "alias Rice," and went by the surname King. Thus, the story of this line will continue under the King name, and details of this family will be found by selecting the link to the entry under Samuel Rice, Jr.'s adopted name, Samuel King, alias Rice. |
