Daniel and Mary (Farnham) Poore

Husband:
Daniel Poore
Born: in England, 1624.
Died: in Andover, MA 8 June 1689.
Parents: Unknown. His father may have been Daniel Poore who was born in Salisbury, Wilts, England in 1599, but this is not determined with any certainty.
Wife:
Mary Farnham
Born: in England, circa 1629.
Died: in Andover, MA 3 February 1714, age 85 years.
Parents: Ralph and Alice (-----) Farnham, who came from England with their family of five children in the Brig James landing in Boston 3 June 1635. Ralph Farnum was born circa 1603 at Leicester, England, and died in Andover, MA 8 January 1691/2, and his wife Alice was born there circa 1607. They were married in England on 10 October 1627.
Married: in Boston, MA 20 October 1650.

Daniel Poore came to America as a young man, age 14, in the ship Bevis in May of 1638. He came with his 18 year old brother, Samuel, and his 20 year old sister, Alice. Because I have not been able to find any mention of their parents, I assume the three younger siblings came together to join their older brother, John, who had come from Wiltshire, England, to America earlier, in 1635, and had settled in Newbury, MA.

The following information, which I summarized in my own words, was taken from Caroline Poor Hutchinson, Genealogy of the Poor Family, p. 48: Daniel livedin Newbury, MA, until he became one of the first settlers, in 1644, of a new plantation called Cochichawic, which was renamed Andover in 1646. He was a "husbandman" or farmer and had a prominent part in the affairs of the town being at various times fence fiewer, surveyor, grand juryman, and, for seven years, a selectman. Daniel must have been a diligent and industrious farmer as, at his death in 1689, he left an estate consisting of many acres, situated on both sides of the Shawsheen River and running to the Merrimac River. Daniel and Mary were members of the "Ancient Church of Andover" and are buried in teh Ancient burying ground in what is now North Andover, MA.

Daniel and his wife Mary (Farnham) Poore had eleven children, all born in Andover, MA:

  • Mary, b. in 1651; m. John Noyes.
  • Sarah, b. 28 Dec. 1652; m. Samuel Pettengill.
  • Martha, b. 4 Nov. 1654; m. John Granger.
  • Daniel, b. 5 Sept. 1656; m. Mehitable Osgood.
  • John, b. 5 Sept. 1658; d. 1690, dilled in the service of his country at Casco Bay.
  • Hannah, b. 6 May 1660; m. Francis Ingalls.
  • Elizabeth, b. 15 April 1661/2; m. Jacob Marston.
  • Deborah, b. 18 April 1664; m. Timothy Osgood.
  • Ruth, b. 16 Feb. 1665/6; m. John Stevens.
  • Priscilla, b. 22 June 1667; m. Abraham Moore.
  • Lucy, b. 28 Sept. 1670; m. Samuel Austin.
