Thomas Lincoln
Eight families by the name of Lincoln came from Hingham, Norfolk, England, and vicinity to Hingham, Massachusetts, between 1630 and 1643/4. There were four Thomases, two Daniels, a Samuel, and a Stephen. The four Lincolns named Thomas can be distinguished by their occupations: a miller, a husbandman (a farmer), a cooper, and a weaver. It is assumed that our Thomas was the husbandman who came to America with his brother, Stephen, who had the same occupation, in the ship Diligent arriving 10 August 1638. Thomas Lincoln's name occurs frequently in the early records of the town of Hingham. He was selectman in 1662, 1669, and 1672. His will, dated 24 May 1681, bequeathed to his wife, Margaret; to daughters, Susanna Barstow, Mary Barker, Sarah Marsh, Elizabeth Lincoln, and Ruth Gill; and to sons, Joshua, Caleb, and Thomas. Thomas and his wife Margaret (Langer) Lincoln had eleven children, all born in Hingham, MA:

Joshua Lincoln, Jr.
We have not been able to establish just where Joshua, Jr. and Anna (Bryant) Lincoln's children were born. One book lists Peleg Lincoln, their first child, as having been born in Bristol, ME, although we have found no record of this in the Vital Records of Bristol. Some settlers of Appleton, ME, such as our relatives, the McLain borthers, Fergus and Archibald, lived in Bristol, ME before moving to Appleton. Perhaps this Joshua Lincoln, Jr. family did also. Joshua, Jr. and Anna were permitted to settle in Appleton, ME on 12 October 1803 which was thirty-six years after their marriage. Joshua, Jr. was granted seventy-five acres of land in the Plantation of Appleton by the Twenty Associates, after producing satisfactory evidence of having performed the conditions of a settler. This land was the southeast part of Lot #10, and the deed was dated August 20, 1805. In the settlement in 1823 of the estate of Joshua Lincoln, Jr., all of his seven children were still alive. Joshua, Jr., and his wife Anna (Bryant) Lincoln had seven children:

Peleg Lincoln
On April 16, 1805, Peleg Lincoln received a quitclaim deed from his father for one hundred acres of land on Appleton Ridge, being the back part of Lot #10 for which he paid one hundred dollars. On the same date, the following was recorded, "Joshua Lincoln and Anna his wife, of Appleton Ridge, Lincoln County, yeoman, in consideration of the services done by him, and the love, good will, and affection which I do bear to my loving son, Peleg Lincoln, of the same plantation and county, yeoman, do give, grant, and sell to him one-half the front lot of #10 which I now live upon, with one-half the buildings now standing thereon, containing one hundred and five acres, to his proper use and benefit, free and clear from me or my heirs." In 1830, Appleton, ME voted to build a circular pound on Peleg Lincoln's ledge, forty feet in diameter, walls of stone 4 ft. thick at bottom, 1 1/2 ft. thick at top, 6 ft. high, with good "gait" to be hung with good hinges or hooks and eyes, and provided with sufficient lock. Charles A. Keene bidding $17.30 received the contract. Peleg Lincoln usually was the keeper of this pound and the foundation of the pound can still be seen. Appleton Ridge is a wonderful high place with long views for miles and miles. We try to ride the Ridge several times each summer just to experience its splendor. Peleg and his first wife Martha (Pease) Lincoln had one child:
Peleg and his second wife Elizabeth (Twombly) Lincoln had five children, all born in Appelton, ME:
