Jenkin Jones

Husband:
Jenkin Jones
Born: Place and date unknown.
Died: probably in Dover, NH, after 1712.
Parents: Unknown.
Wife:
Abigail Heard
Born: possibly in York, ME, 2 August 1651.
Died: Place and date unknown, but was living in 1687.
Father: John Heard.
Mother: Elizabeth Hull.
Married: sometime before 1687.

My research material notes that on 5 December 1655, a Jenkins Jones of Cowchurch, Glamorgan, labourer, was bound to John Villacott of Bristol, England, mariner, to serve 4 years in Barbadoes. Also in the same book, 13 October 1657, a Jenkins Jones, yeoman, was bound to Daniel Pincott of Barbadoes to serve there for three years. Whether or not the above two Jenkins Jones were one and the same man bound for service in Barbadoes and whether or not either one was our Jenkin Jones is not clear.

We do know that our Jenkin Jones was a taxpayer in Cochecho (now Dover), NH, in 1666 and bought land there in 1673. In 1712, Jenkin and Abigail deeded their homestead in Dover to son, Joseph, "with life reservation."

Jenkin and his wife Abigail (Heard) Jones had at least three children, all born probably in Dover, NH. One source says that their first child was born 2 April 1686 in Dover, NH, but I have not bee anble to find out which of their three children was their first child.
