Note: Our reference says that Ann was, "a grave matron and of good carriage."

Edmund and Margaret came to America with their three youngest children, and a man-servant, Henry Gibbs, on the ship Bonaventure which left Yarmouth, England, on 3 May 1633, and arrived in Boston on 15 June 1633. Edmund settled in Charlestown, took the freeman's oath on 4 March 1634, and soon after was appointed a constable by the General Court.

In 1635, his family, with three other married children recently arrived from England, moved to Bear Cove (Hingham). He assisted in organizing the First Church there, of which his son, Peter, was the first minister. He was appointed to several town offices and was a representative to the General Court from 1639 through 1642.

Edmund and his first wife, Margaret (Dewey) Hobart had eleven children, all born in England:

History has Peter, the second son of Edmond, "as an independent and spirited clergyman ... which occasionally brought him up before the general court to answer for his outspoken opinions... He defended his brothers Joshua, Edmund, and Thomas against charges of insubordination brought by Lieutenant Anthony Eames (an immigrant ancestor of ours), commanding officer of the 'train band' and a member of Rev. Peter's church. This was a bitter and disagreeable quarrel, and agitated Hingham for many years. The various active participants were fined a sum total of 155 pounds, 10 shillings, to which Joshua contributed 10 pounds, Edmund, Jr., 5 pounds, and Thomas and Peter 2 pounds each... By his parishioners, he (Rev. Peter) was greatly admired, respected and loved." Stearns, Genealogical and Family History of New Hampshire, p. 862.
