Richard and Dinah Dwelley

Married: Date and place unknown.

Richard Dwelley, Sr. was in Lancaster, MA in 1654, in Hingham, MA in 1660, and in Scituate, MA in 1665. He had a farm "about a mile north of the third Herring brook." In 1676, he was a soldier in King Philip's War and received for his services a grant of land between Cornet's mill and the Plymouth road. He had meadow land at Till's creek which subsequently was known as Dwelley's creek.

Richard and his wife Dinah Dwelley had at least four children:

  • Richard, Jr., bpt. probably in Hingham, MA, 10 March 1659/60; d. 1708; m. (1) 4 April 1682, Amy Glass, daughter of Roger Glass of Duxbury, MA; m. (2) in 1690, Elizabeth Simmons, died 24 February 1708, daughter of Moses Simmons or Simonson.
  • John, b. probably in Hingham, MA about 1660; d. in Scituate, MA 1718; m. 4 Jan. 1692 (possibly as his second wife) Rachel Buck, daughter of Cornet John and Elizabeth (Holbrook) Sprague Buck of Scituate.
  • Mary, bpt. in Hingham, MA 28 Feb. 1663/4.
  • Samuel, place and date of birth unknown; d. 1690 on Phips Expedition to Quebec.

John may have had a first marriage to a Mary Glass.

John and his wife Rachel (Buck) Dwelley had fifteen children, all assumed to have been born in Scituate, MA:

  • Simeon, b. 22 Dec. 1701; d. unmarried in 1723.
  • Deborah, b. 25 July 1703; m. Isaac Keen, son of Josiah Keen, Jr. and Lydia (Baker) Keen.
  • Joseph, bpt. 6 May 1705; m. Mary Randell, daughter of Isaac Randell.
  • Thankful, b. 12 Dec. 1706; m. William Forbes.
  • Mary, b. 18 May 1708; m. Coombs Barrows.
  • Benjamin, b. 22 May 1709.
  • Susanna, b. 19 Dec. 1711.
  • Mercy, b. 24 Sept. 1714; m. Joshua Lincoln, son of Solomon and Hannah (Stetson) Lincoln.
  • Lemuel, b. 24 Sept. 1714; d. circa 1743, unmarried.
