We are descended from two men named Dingley. One branch of our ancestry descends from John Dingley of Marshfield, Massachusetts, who lived in the 17th Century, while another branch of our ancestry descends from Joseph Dingley of Duxbury, Massachusetts, who lived in the 18th Century. Unfortunately, we have been unable to establish a link between Joseph Dingley and any other member of the Dingley Families of New England, so the relationship between Joseph and John, if any, is unknown.

John and Sarah Dingley
John Dingley may have lived earlier in Lynn, Massachusetts, but he first appears in the Plymouth Colony records at Sandwich on 4 December 1638 when he was fined 10 s. for "being defective in arms." According to Plymouth Colony records, John was granted 5 1/2 acres of meadow lands at Sandwich on 16 April 1640. He was listed as "able to bear arms" for both Sandwich and Marshfield in 1643 and, since he was chosen constable of Marshfield and made a freeman there on 5 June 1644, we believe he moved to Marshfield about that time. He served as grand juror, highway surveyor, was on trial juries, and was described on a land deed as a smith (blacksmith). John and his wife Sarah (-----) Dingley had six children:

Joseph Dingley
We have not been able to find information about Joseph Dingley, other than he was from Duxbury, Massachusetts, nor have we been able to connect him with any Dingley family in New England. We have also been unsuccessful in connecting this Eames family with any of the Eames or Ames families from this area of New England. Joseph and his wife Hannah (Eames) Dingley had at least three children, born in Duxbury, MA:
