William Child

William Child		Born:probably in England, date unknown.
Died:at an early age, probably in Watertown, MA.
Parents:Unknown.
The name of William's wife is not known. They were probably married in England.

William settled in Watertown, MA, where he was made "freeman" in 1634 and was a man of some means. He is assumed to be the brother of Ephraim Child, also of Watertown, MA, who left bequests to two of William's sons. Ephraim's wife in her will left clothing to William's widow which would also indicate a close relationship.

William Child and his wife had three children:

  • Joseph, b. in England about 1629; m. in 1654, Sarah Platt.
  • Richard, b. in Watertown, MA, in 1631; m. (1) Mehitable Dimock; m. (2) Hannah Traine.
  • John, b. in Watertown, MA, in 1636; m. (1) Mary -----; m. (2) Mary Warren.

Richard Child married second Hannah Traine, daughter of John Traine, in Watertown, MA, 16 January 1678.

Richard Child took the oath of fidelity in 1652.

Richard and his first wife Mehitable (Dimock) Child had eight children, all born in Watertown, MA:

  • Richard, Jr., b. 30 March 1663; m. Mary Flagg.
  • Ephraim, b. 9 Oct. 1664; d. in Feb. 1665.
  • Shubael, b. 19 Dec. 1665; m. Abigail Saunders.

Richard and his second wife Hannah (Traine) Child had five children, all born in Watertown, MA:
