Nicholas Baker was born probably in England and died probably in Scituate, Massachusetts 22 August 1678. We do not know the name of his first wife, but do know that she died 23 April 1661. A year later, on 29 April 1662, he married his second wife whose "Christian name was Grace."

Nicholas came with his brother, Nathaniel, to Hingham, MA in 1635 and they had adjoining lots of 5 acres each granted to them on 18 Spetember 1635. This was on a slight eminence that became known locally as Baker's Hill. Nicholas was a delegate from Hingham to the General Court in 1636 and in 1638.

He moved about 1644 or 1645 to Hull, MA, where he was an extensive landowner.

In 1660 he was invited to preach at Scituate where he was ordained a minister.

Nicholas and his first wife (name unknown) had nine children, the first four born in Hingham:

• Thomas (birth not in Hingham records), m. in Hingham, 6 Nov. 1674, Christian Beal, daughter of Nathaniel Beal.
• Sarah (birth not in Hingham records), m. in 1671, Josiah Litchfield of Scituate.
• Deborah, bpt. in Hingham 6 June 1652; m. 1678 Israel Chittenden of Scituate.
• Nathaniel.

Samuel and his first wife Ellen (Winslow) Baker had at least six children, all born in Marshfield, MA:

• Kenelm, b. 1657.
• Lydia, b. 18 Feb. 1659/60; m. Josiah Keen, Jr.
• Elizabeth, b. 18 March 1661.
• Mary, b. 1662.
• Alice, b. 1663.
• Ellen, b. 1665.

Samuel and his second wife Patience (Simmons) Baker had at least one child:
